Client: Foodstuffs
Project Value: $24m
Completion: Mid-2022
Project Type: Buildings & Retail
Our role: Foodstuffs Internal Project Manager, External Project Manager, Engineer to Contract
This large and complex redevelopment project involved a major store refurbishment and structural expansion of the existing supermarket retail and bulk storage areas for Wairau PAK’nSave.
Wairau PAK'nSave is one of the busiest supermarkets in the country. This site presents its own existing challenges with contaminated ground, poor ground conditions and undertaking construction within a fully operational and live environment.
Half way through construction, it was decided to introduce a Separable Portion for the Bulk Store. The project includes:
Separable Portion 1: refurbishments of mezzanine staff facilities, construction of a large precast panel and structural steel Bulk Storage facility which is attached to the existing building, as well as a new customer car park area.
Separable Portion 2: expansion and extensive refurbishment of the existing supermarket retail area, staff offices, along with the expansion and realignment of the existing customer carpark.
Carrying out the works in a live supermarket, maintaining excellent lines of communication to enable the store to keep operating seamlessly without disruption, while successfully delivering the construction works.
Close management and coordination of the consultant and construction teams enabled a successful delivery of the first Separable Portion of works. The second portion of works was completed mid-2022.
TOBA are the Internal and External Project Managers delivering this project through the design, consenting, procurement and construction observation phases. TOBA are also the Engineer to Contract on this project.
